"Now, take him to Detroit!"

Jarrod Washburn to Detroit for Lucas French and Maurico Robles.

Couldn't be happier.

Woot!

We actually got value in return. Even if these guys don't work out the possibility that we got value is amazing.

Yeah, I got you nice a early birthday present, muthafucka. No more Washburn.

Man, you guys gotta read some of the stuff Baker is writing about this Robles kid. It's giving me a boner.

strikes a bunch of people out, on the Venezuelan national team at 20...

you know, the type that we used to trade AWAY for a washed-up bat.

People on KJR really don't like this trade. They wanted bats and/or more.

I don't think people understand that Washburn really wasn't worth what we got. He had 5 months of success and 2.5 years of awfulnessesessesesesss.

On a side note, I really don't get this move.

The Sox needed to ditch a firstbaseman so why would they dumb one for another?!?

People on KJR are dumb. The trades over the last couple days have really shaken my confidence in the general baseball knowledge of Seattle fans. I guess I should have learned by now. What kind of bat are we going to get for 2 months of Jarrod Washburn? This was fucking coup and I think we should all be astounded by the value we got back. These same people turn around and act like the Pirates trade is a stroke of absolute brilliance.

Casual baseball fans don't pay any attention to the minor leagues. Who cares about a few arms in A ball? We want to see some dingers! And then they complain about how the M's farm system sucks and we never have any good players coming out of it. I don't get my it's so hard to connect the dots and see that all these things are related. I get sick of having the same conversation over and over again with idiotic M's fans.

I'm still not sure about the overall pitching depth of the organization, but Robles sounds better than any of the arms we gave up for Wilson/Snell and the guys we got in the Yuni trade might be as well. We're better in the minors and on the big club than we were 2 weeks ago.

I'm not so sure I'm that worried about our line up. Ichiro, Gutz, and Branyan are all outstanding. Jose Lopez is decent and entering his peak years. It sounds like Beltre is improving and that his shoulder was really bothering him. If he can get back to hitting like he did 2006-2008, that will be awesome. It's getting rid of the black holes in the line up that is the big deal, and Jack Z is doing that. No more :(edeno and no more Griffey/Sweeney DH platoon after this season. It would be great to find a bat to fit into that DH spot next year so it's not a Shelton/Carp combo, but that might get us by.

Victor Martinez >> Adam LaRoche, but yeah, it's kind of a weird move. It's essentially Mike Lowell and Jason Varitek insurance. I'm sure the BoSox would much rather have Martinez's bat in the line up than Varitek's, but (a) Martinez is a bad catcher and (b) their fans ride the short bus and would throw a fit if "Tek" got benched. It will be interesting to see how they split ABs between Lowell, Youkilis, Martinez, and Varitek.

This.

I listened to Brock and Salk on teh interwebz the other day and was also very saddened by the general knowledge of baseball fans that called in. Now I know that not every fan is Dave Cameron, but Jesus....

Anyway, take comfort in the fact that even though we have a few nutbags calling in to KJR, we are still way more informed as a city than most. I'll personally attest to the fact that all 13 million people in the Los Angeles basin still think that Adrian Beltre is a total bust. They're fucking morons.

BTW, how glad is everyone that Halladay did not end up in Texas or Anaheim. Holy crap, that would have sucked if the M's were going to make any kind of move at the AL West next season.

Texas has a pretty impressive collection of young talent and some great arms pretty close to the bigs. It remains to be seen if Nolan Ryan is going to make all their arms fall off since they announced they have no intention of ever tracking pitch counts. But it seems that all 4 AL West teams now competently run and that fucking sucks. Why can't we have a division like the Central where you have a team like the Royals and another GM like Kenny Williams where you never know what kind of wacky shit their going to do? For all the talk of this being a weak division, winning the AL West might be a pretty impressive accomplishment in a year or two.

This is a great string but not enough about boobies...
