No, no, No, NO, NOOOOOOO

You're doing it wrong!

ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney tells us the Mariners plan to keep Jarrod Washburn through the trade deadline and hope to persuade him to sign some sort of extension. Olney says the team is hoping to come to some kind of understanding with the lefty, who has taken off under the tutelage of pitching coach Rick Adair. When teams call, however, Seattle will listen. Olney says most rival execs feel the M's are content to hang onto Washburn.

The Yankees and Brewers are both rumored to be looking at Washburn.

I'm not sure how Buster Olney is getting the scoop on this over our beat writers since ESPN has pretty much made it a habit of just ripping off stories from smaller news organizations and slapping their name on it, but come the fuck on.

Come on!

"I would take his fake-injured-arm-ass and throw it in the bullpen and make him pitch every day. He can go 3 innings right? So just spread that out over a few days."

Quote about Bedard...Why do all our trades start to look the same.

Do I already make the "Wilson to Scirillioiooioio" reference. Former All-start who laid an egg in seattle. I hope not.

"At least we got outbid on Schmidt and zito. Imagine this staff:

Zito
Schmidt
Silva
Batista
Ho-Ram
"

Here is another potential scenario that should make us feel better (or worse that we wanted it to happen and failed) that it didn't come together.

There's an ocean of difference between Wilson and Cirillo, mostly because people expected Cirillo to hit. Wilson just has to not be a black hole.

Seattle fans all seem to think the trade was brilliant. Whatever.

And we're talking about Washburn. Why can't you stay on topic?

I'll play devil's advocate.

What if (and we're talking like a 0.001% chance here) that Jarrod Washburn really has turned it around? What if the new pitching coach and Wak's "belief system" is all the guy has needed for his whole career? Pretend that baseball-reference.com does not exist and you've never heard the word regression.

He's going to be 35 next month. He makes $600k more than Silva this year (SILVA!). Things could be way worse.

How close to the end of the world is a Jarrod Washburn arbitration year next year?

I know (as we all know) why we really want to trade him. It's not because he sucks, it's because his stock is artificially high right now. If the right deal is just not out there, though, do you still want to unload him for crap?

Here's a scenario that might not lick dog balls: We keep Washburn and he pitches lights out baseball for the rest of the otherwise non-eventful 2009 campaign. At the end of the year, we offer him arbitration (It will come back with something like $10 million for that year. Maybe a little more). Washburn turns down arbitration (because he knows he can get more) and goes to the Mets who offer him $700 trillion over the rest of the century and we end up with a type B free agent compensatory pick.

Is this better than a trade for a shit-bunch of prospects? No, not at all. Is it time to go stock up on razor blades for a wrist cutting party? Nope.

All I want to say is that team chemistry is really, really important and we shouldn't have traded Yuni because he was a premier defender. Carlos Silva has the potential to be a staff ace and Christopher Columbus discovered the moon in 1935.

I saw Silva in the dugout yesterday. Scared the shit out of me. I know I've been off the continent for a while, but when did they let him leave Peoria?

Washburn "likes it here" now. Why would you want to force him to move? Don't you want him to be happy? You guys are jerks.

I'll admit that I'm actually feeling a little more comfortable in Washburn starts now and that scares the shit out of me. If he accepts arbitration, we'll end up paying him more than he's worth and that can hamper us for next season. Resigning him to a low deal might not be the worst thing in the world if he can continue as a good pitcher for another couple years, but there's potential to backfire. There's a ton of "ifs" here. I want him traded yesterday.

More from Buster Olney, which of course contradicts some of what he said earlier.

"ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports that the Mariners made a proposal to the Yankees in regards to pitcher Jarrod Washburn, but it was something that the Yankees are not interested in doing. Contrary to one published report, the Mariners did not ask for either Joba Chamberlain or Phil Hughes.

It figures that Seattle would only ask for a likely windfall, however. Olney reports they are fairly content to keep Washburn and hope to re-sign him in that event. The lefty has taken off under the tutelage of pitching coach Rick Adair. When teams call, however, Seattle will listen. Olney says most rival execs feel the M's are content to hang onto Washburn.

The Yankees and Brewers are both rumored to be looking at Washburn."

If Morrow could ever pull his head out his ass, I have to admit that a rotation of

Felix
Bedard
Washburn
Snell
Morrow/RRS

looks surprisingly above average. There's just not a whole lot of depth behind it.

"The lefty has taken off under the tutelage of pitching coach Rick Adair."

Didn't we hear the same thing about...oh...say everyone on our staff?

Silva also lost a lot of weight, Morrow is a closer, a starter, a reliever...trade Washburn. GOOONNNNEEEE. Please.PLEASE!

I am sure we all saw this but at least it is on the "Washburn topic"

Now that we suck again and there was a couple key losses/wins yesterday (NL central is tight, Marlins are only 2 out, Red Sox/Yankees always need to make moves so their fans base doesn't burn down the cities...which would be fine by me) maybe there can be a crazed last second bidding war for Washburn. How glorious would that be. I don't care if we get a bunch of prospects who don't pan out...any sort of trade would be awesome. I have an old coffee cup (still good if you wash it) and and old Plasma physics book (originally $125). I think it would be a good trade.

...and as I check the "other" site

Breaking news

So much for my old coffee cup. Really didn't want to give up the veteran anyway.

YESYESYESYESYESYESYESYESYES!!!!!!!!

I think this is the final sign that we need to know that Jack Z really, truly fucking GETS it. This helps to restock the guys we gave up to get Wilson and Snell and it basically replaces Washburn with Washburn of 10 years ago for $400k.

The really good news is that Brett can stop playing Devil's Advocate.
